Jellyrolls
The Jellyroll series traces its origins to a formative childhood memory of watching Karen’s grandmother roll together strips of fabric for quilting. What began as an early fascination with color and pattern has evolved into a contemporary material practice grounded in transformation and repetition. Each module is composed of individually hand-dyed book pages, tightly wound around a central dowel to create a compact, sculptural form that echoes the density and rhythm of traditional quilt rolls.
Installed in multiples, the works function as a modular system—either adhered directly to the wall as a site-specific installation or framed to create a more transportable arrangement. The Jellyrolls extend Karen’s ongoing interest in the book as a structural material, translating its tactile and archival qualities into a visual language that is at once systematic, intuitive, and deeply rooted in memory.
